On Low Temps and High Energy

Chilly corner, NYC
Photo by myself in Midtown, around 48th Street and 7th Avenue.

It is absolutely frigid here in New York, with icy winds that take your breath away.

I took this photo earlier this month, when it was slightly warmer. Right now, it is difficult to take photos outside or expose even a millimeter of skin.

One drawback with severe temperatures is that little dogs do not like to go outside.

Little dogs with short coats prefer moderate weather. And so they stay in and become very worked up and demanding. Only after hours of fetch and running around tormenting their masters, will they settle down for a nap.

Fortunately there are Meet-Ups every month or so for such little dogs. Earlier this month we went to one in Soho. There must have been over 30 Boston Terriers running around on a rubber floor going crazy.

Rupert had a grand time romping and playing. I know it looks like many Ruperts, but he's not in this photo! He must have been an another corner, wreaking massive amounts of destruction!

On my vacation to Finland I went out on the 25th morn' only to realize that the temps had decreased to tens and it really felt super duper cold. I came across some greyhounds clothed in doggie overalls. I stuck to my one-hour walk plan, but sure was happy to get back inside and have a cup of fresh steaming coffee.

New York pics keep inspiring me. Thanks Kitty for providing the best photos and editorials ever!

Regarding small dogs not liking cold weather, we used to have an indoor/outdoor cat named Cosmo. When he wanted to go out, if you opened the front door for him and it was snowing or raining, he would turn around and head for the back door, probably hoping there would be different weather out that door.

We have basset hounds. NOT little, by any stretch of one's imagination. But they too abhor the cold and much prefer to curl up at either end of the sofa, like two furry turd-shaped bookends, for almost the whole day long.

Ha Olivier!

Hi Susu
I can imagine that greyhounds also don't do well in cold weather. And sadly too, they can't drink coffee!

Good thing you weren't out too long!

Hi Terry
lol I would have loved to meet Cosmo. Cats are too funny!

Hi Lozzie
Oh the basset hounds sound wonderful! They are at least sedentary. Rupert's running around berserk can be a bit much at times.
